Training Update

Several people have been asking me how my training is going, short answer is... not near as well as I want it to be. Rain, snow, being sick, school, and general pains of life sort of get in the way. Dealing with all of that and still finding time to properly train and rest is part of the ironman life style I suppose.

Some lessons thus far:
1. The pool is always incredibly busy.
2. A bike trainer is the most boring thing in the entire world (even with a movie/tv on).
3. Running in the snow/ice is hard and slightly annoying (no, I didn't fall :).
4. Its much harder to fit two work outs per day into a schedule than I ever thought it would be. I do believe this will be much easier once its actually warm outside though.

I still don't have a training plan set in stone, mostly because I have no idea where my swimming will be in a couple of months. Its def hard to not have much structure in my training at this point. Building a stronger base in running/cycling is great, but my mind is 70% focused on swimming still. My rough plan is to start a 20 week ironman plan the first of April and compete in two local 70.3 races. Until then its mental training along with wrapping up lose ends. Words still cannot express how excited I get thinking about it all!

On another note, I'm looking for a tri bike for the season and to train on. (Moving up from a road bike) I would def pref used as I'm a poor college student.

A shout out to my friend Rachel for completing her first 5k this past weekend! She beat my first 5k time by 3 minutes. You'll be seeing us both at the triple crown series during derby, hopefully we'll see you too! Get out there and enjoy the fresh air :)

  1. I think going skiing would be some good cross training - haha.
Just wanted to encourage you to get out there and get some miles under your belt! You can do it!
